Cross References Topic

A cross reference is a secondary identifying number, such as a barcode, that can be associated with objects like documents, physical items, and virtual items. This lets you associate the numbering systems of vendors or clients, or simply refer to previously used identification numbers.

Examples of cross reference types are:

  • Old Number
  • National Stock Number
  • Vendor Catalog Number
  • Barcode Number
  • ISBN Number
Note: Before you can add a cross reference, the administrator must first define the list of available cross reference types. This is done in the System Admin tab under Maintain List Values > Cross Reference Type.
Note: You can only add or remove a cross reference if the object you are modifying is not approved.
